From inspiring future interior designers in the classroom to advancing global research on healthy environments, Dr. Nasrin Golshany continues to make an impact – now as a recipient of a prestigious Fullbright U.S. Scholar Award, an internationally recognized academic exchange program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.

Dr. Golshany, who currently teaches lighting design studios in our Interior Design programs and also serves as Assistant Professor of Interior Design in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at California State University, Northridge, (CSUN), will travel to Brazil as a Fullbright Research Scholar through a collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism and Design at the University of São Paulo (FAU-USP), one of Latin America’s leading research institutions.
Her research project, Health Environments for Aging: Indoor Environmental Quality and Well-Being in Brazilian Long-Term Care Facilities, will examine how key aspects of the built environment, including lighting, acoustics, thermal comfort, and indoor air quality influence the health, well-being, and quality of life of older adults.
Drawing on the principles of evidence-based design and environmental psychology, the project aims to identify strategies for creating healthier, safer, and more supportive care environments for aging populations. The research will also explore how environmental conditions affect caregivers, family members, and healthcare professionals working in long-term care settings.
In addition to conducting research, Dr. Golshany will collaborate with faculty and students at FAU-USP, deliver presentations and workshops, and strengthen international partnerships with one of Latin America’s premier research universities.
The Fullbright Program supports scholars who advance knowledge, foster cross-cultural understanding, and address global challenges through international collaboration. Dr. Golshany’s award recognizes her significant contributions to human-centered design, healthy aging, environmental psychology, and evidence-based design.
DI is proud to recognize Dr. Golshany’s achievements and contributions to design education. Through her commitment to advancing research that improves human health and well-being, she continues to inspire the next generation of interior designers while making a meaningful impact on the global design community.
Congratulations, Dr. Golshany, on this remarkable and well-deserved achievement!
