SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2011

Food Network's Restaurant Impossible - DI Students Volunteer Behind the Scenes

DI students love being involved with real time design experiences and so when the opportunity to help HGTV designer, Tanya Nayak, came along there was an enthusiastic response…to say the least! Tanya was in San Diego helping Food Network's Robert Irvine, with his Restaurants Impossible show and, to make it happen, she needed some extra hands. A call went out for volunteers asking them to work one of three eight hour shifts during the two days of filming.

Responding to Tanya's call to action, many DI students got a behind the scenes, hands-on look at what producing a television show is all about. DI student Brittany Smith was one of the volunteers. Brittany had such a great time that she ended up working two of the shifts! "It was such an amazing experience for me. I will be starting my second year in the fall at DI and I already have some really great experiences to add to my resume. Tanya Nayak was so fun to work with and I learned a lot from her. We worked very hard with the renovation and we were able to complete it in 48 hrs. The restaurant was absolutely beautiful once it was completed and the owners were so amazed, thankful and happy by all the hard work that was put into the renovation."

To see the episode of Restaurants Impossible that Brittany and other DI student volunteers worked on, tune in to the Food Network on:
