WHAT'S HAPPENING AT DI:
Alla Carrasco used to be a choreographer in Belarus. When the Soviet Union collapsed, she moved to Hawaii to be with her then boyfriend (now husband), who was in the military. They then moved to Indiana where Alla started her undergraduate degree in interior design. After some minor struggles with the language barrier, she realized she had found her calling. When her husband was transferred to San Diego, she had to search for another quality design program, that's when she found Design Institute of San Diego.

Have you ever watched a movie and found yourself paying more attention to the set than the story? As a lover of classic Alfred Hitchcock movies and all the universal horror pictures like Frankenstein, DISD student Kayleigh Lane would answer with a definitive yes. "I always notice how detailed the sets are and I thought, 'well, someone has to do it!' I didn't know what a production designer did, a set designer, set decorator or art director. Or the relationship between them." What Kayleigh did know was that she wanted to be a part of it. When she started researching, she found that interior design always seemed to pop up on the list of things to know...

May is "Macaroon Month" in France...delicious, delicate sweetness in all the splendid colors of the rainbow and in flavors as varied as rosewater and licorice. May is also a perfect month for experiencing The City of Lights and the Provence; a fact eight Design Institute students discovered on their recent trip to Paris and the south of France for the annual International Interior Design Study Tour led by Denise Homme, Design Institute of San Diego Interior Design Program Director.
