JULES WILSON
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design Degree, 1997
Founder and Principal of Jules Wilson Design Studio
What was your experience like at Design Institute of San Diego?
Great. I was really able to find my focus at DI and pursue my dreams as a designer. I never really liked school growing up. At DI not only did I start to enjoy school, but I gained the tools required to flourish as a professional and founder of a 13-year-old thriving business. Additionally and surprisingly, I also discovered my passion for international travel and architectural history at DI, which is an on-going inspiration in my design work today.
Where are you working now? What is your title?
Founder and Principal of Jules Wilson Design Studio, a boutique firm focused on high-end multi-family housing developments, commercial, and residential design nation wide.
What could you share with a prospective student about why they should consider attending?
You should attend DI when you are serious about your passions in design and are motived to pursue and provide quality designed spaces for people and the betterment of the world.
If you could give one piece of advice to an aspiring interior designer, what would it be?
Be serious, be focused, and work hard. Otherwise, please...don't bother! The pursuit of great design is a wonderful life, it’s worth fighting for.
Why did you want to become an interior designer?
I couldn't see myself being anything else.
At what age did you realize you wanted to pursue interior design?
I always found design and arts interesting. I decided to pursue interiors specifically around 14 or 15.
When you first started at DISD, did you see yourself reaching the position you are currently in?
Yes, only much sooner.
What was your favorite class at Design Institute?
History. I strongly believed that great modernism and forward thinking should evolve strategically from the knowledge and wisdom of the past.
