STUDENT LIFE

Southern California is a mecca for artists and designers who find the beauty of the Pacific ocean, the colors and textures of the desert, and the intense clarity of the California sun conducive to the creative life. Many come as students and find it hard to leave.
The student entering Design Institute may be a recent high school graduate, a transferring college student, or someone with previous postsecondary education or work experience interested in a new career. All are united by a common goal – to become professional interior designers. Because their desire is strong, they are prepared for the discipline required by a rigorous program and are motivated by the outstanding professionals who encourage them to succeed.
STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), sponsor student activities at Design Institute of San Diego. Student contact with professional interior designers provides insight and understanding of professional standards and practices and serves as important reinforcement of classroom learning. Students are highly encouraged to attend ASID and IIDA student and professional chapter meetings and presentations. Notices of these events are posted and also appear in DI Details, the college newsletter.
ASID Student Chapter
More than 8,000 student members of ASID in 180 schools across the country form the largest network of interior design students worldwide. ASID student membership is the best way to meet the professionals, connect with peers through Career Day, compete in interior design award programs sponsored by ASID, stay informed on current issues, and make the transition to Allied Membership in ASID after graduation.
Since 1980 Design Institute students have won numerous competitions sponsored by ASID, both on the local and national levels.
