Design Institute of San Diego collects data from multiple sources regarding graduates' employment and careers.
The placement rate is the number of graduates who secure employment in the interior design industry within six months of graduating from DISD. To calculate this rate, we start with the number of students who graduated that year and subtract the number of graduates who are not available for employment in the United States, perhaps because they are international students returning to their home country, serving in the military, continuing their education, or fall into other qualifying categories.
Of the graduates available for employment in the United States, we then determine how many have a job in the interior design industry within six months of graduation. The percentage of available graduates who are employed is the placement rate.
This data is reported by graduates, verified through official forms completed by employers, and reported to the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) of the State of California.
Design Industry Sectors
Many graduates specialize in one or two areas of design, such as residential design or hospitality design. Others work in all sectors. Of the graduates who responded to the survey, about one-third work in residential design and about two-thirds work in non-residential design.
This data comes from a survey that we send to all alumni six months after they graduate.
Annual Starting Salaries for Graduates Employed Full-Time
Many DISD graduates secure full-time employment within six months of graduation. For these graduates who are employed full-time, over 72% were offered starting salaries of more than $30,000/year.
This data comes from official forms completed by employers, and is reported to the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) of the State of California.
