The Japanese Friendship Garden is delighted to host Beauty in the Obscure featuring the ethereal, acrylic paintings of Ben Aubert, the recent Curator and Art Director for Hyde Art Gallery at Grossmont College.
Born in Aberdeen Washington with a Bachelor of Arts degree from San Jose State University, Ben Aubert has exhibited in both northern and southern California, as well as Uppsala, Sweden. Finding splendor in the distorted and enigmatic images of the night, Mr. Aubert's collection, which is mostly untitled, allows room for individual interpretation.
"The essence of my paintings is in my connection to the landscape. My artwork emobodies images seen in the past with various elements of my imagination. I consider what I am working on to be a process that combines a passion for the manipulation of the medium as I attempt to craft it into interesting compositions, textures, colors and line. I have always had a great fondness for the mystery in night visions and the ethereal qualities I have witnessed in my life. Consequently, my work has evolved out of my sense of what I envision to be beautiful."
